(Question No. 4570)

Mr Donald Cameron asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage and Environment, upon notice, on 18 September 1986:

Further to Question No. 3359 placed on the Notice Paper on 13 March 1986, (a) have more than 6 months passed since the question was first placed on the Notice Paper, (b) have 19 Ministers already replied to a similar question, (c) when can I expect an answer to the question and (d) what does this delay say about the efficiency of the internal reporting system in his department.

Mr Cohen —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(a) Yes

(b) Yes

(c) The response to Question No. 3359 was lodged with the House of Representatives Table Office on 5 December 1986. A copy of the response was subsequently sent to you at your electorate address.

(d) Considerable time and effort were required to collect, verify and standardise the information you sought and to thereby ensure an accurate response. You will note that my reply was 48 pages long and included details of 130 overseas visits undertaken by officers of my Department and the ten statutory authorities within my portfolio.
