Mr Cadman asked the Minister for Immi- gration and Ethnic Affairs, upon notice, on 21 August 1986:

(1) How many appeals have been lodged with the Immigration Review Panel against decisions of his Department since 5 March 1983.

(2) How many of these Departmental decisions were reversed before the Panel considered the appeal.

(3) How many of these appeals has the Panel (a) considered, (b) recommended should be upheld and (c) recommended that the Department's decision be maintained.

(4) How many Panel recommendations have been accepted in cases where the recommendation was (a) the appeal be upheld and (b) the Department's decision stand.

(5) How many of the decisions adverse to the appellant were made (a) personally by him and (b) by a Departmental officer as his delegate.


Mr Hurford —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

Details of appeals to the Immigration Review Panel can be provided only in respect of cases recorded on the review management computer system which came into operation in July 1984 and which stores data on cases which were not finalised by the end of June 1984 and those which were received since 1 July 1984. The following answers refer to the period 1 July 1984 to 31 July 1986:
