To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives assembled; the humble Petition of the undersigned citizens of Australia respectfully showeth:

``That we strenuously object to the proposal that the post office at Balwyn West, Victoria, be closed. The post office serves a community need and we would be seriously inconvenienced by having to travel further for our postal requirements, or even to collect registered letters and parcels.

We maintain that the purpose of post offices should be to serve the public for the variety of services they offer, and that they should not be closed merely to save money or to help Australia Post make a profit.

Your petitioners therefore humbly pray that the House should take all possible steps to prevent the closure of the Balwyn West, Victoria, Post Office.

And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
