(Question No. 4891)

Mr Lloyd asked the Minister for Aviation, upon notice, on 13 November 1986:

(1) Was wiring for the new radar system for Adelaide airport designed by officers of his Department based in Canberra.

(2) Did this wiring subsequently need to be replaced because of its inadequacy.

(3) Were new tenders called for the replacement of the wiring; if so, how much did the replacement of the wiring cost.

(4) What was the delay between (a) when the wiring was found to be inadequate and when it was decided to call for tenders to replace it and (b) when it was decided to call for tenders and the completion of the work.

(5) When was the orginal approval given for a new radar system to be installed at the airport and when will the new system be fully operational.

Mr Peter Morris —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1) Yes.

(2) No.

(3) No.

(4) Not applicable.

(5) Original approval for the new radar system to be installed at Adelaide was given by the Minister for Transport in the context of the 1978-79 Technical Capital Works Programme of the Department of Transport. The system will become operational on 18 December 1986.
