(Question No. 4881)

Mr Connolly asked the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, upon notice, on 13 November 1986:

(1) Is he able to say whether allegations have been made in the South Australian Parliament over the misuse of funds by the Pitjantjatjara Council; if so, is his Department investigating the allegations.

(2) What action is being taken to ensure that funds allocated to the Council are accounted for adequately.

(3) What has been the outcome of his Department's investigations of Council's finances.

Mr Holding —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1) Allegations of this nature were made in the South Australian Parliament on 5 November 1986.

(2) Officers of the Department have examined the claims and found no evidence to warrant further investigation.

(3) The Pitjantjatjara Council is subject to the normal accountability requirements relating to all Aboriginal organisations as outlined in the Departments ``Conditions of Grants'' publication.
