(Question No. 4748)

Mr Fife asked the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, upon notice, on 10 October 1986:

How many (a) youth and (b) adults were unemployed and seeking full-time work on 1 October each year since 1980 in local government areas wholly or partly within the Electoral Division of Hume.

Mr Willis —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

The only data available on unemployment by age for the Electoral Division of Hume are CES statistics. The following table provides information on unemployed person awaiting placement (looking for full-time work) registered with Offices of the Commonwealth Employment Service (OCES) which service areas wholly or partly within the Electoral Division of Hume.

Approximately 95 per cent of the population serviced by the Wagga Wagga OCES, 80 per cent of the population serviced by the Tumut Branch Office of the CES, 40 per cent of the population serviced by the Young OCES, 23 per cent of the population serviced by the Cowra OCES and 11 per cent of the population serviced by the Goulburn OCES reside in the Hume Electorate. Prior to 1983, the Young OCES statistical counts were amalgamated with those from the Cowra OCES, and the Tumut Branch was included in the Wagga Wagga OCES statistical counts. No data are available for September 1981 and 1982.
