(Question No. 4743)

Mr Everingham asked the Minister for Local Government and Admininstrative Services, upon notice, on 8 October 1986:

Has the Government paid the removal costs of furniture or personal effects to or from (a) 14 Narambi Street, Narrabundah or (b) 6 Tennyson Crescent, Forrest, ACT, since March 1983.

Mr Uren —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

My Department does not keep its records for Commonwealth-arranged removals on an address basis. Files are maintained by the surname of the person being moved and there are some 8000 removals in or to the ACT arranged each year. It is not practicable to examine those 25,000 files in order to answer the question fully.

However, my Department advises me of its knowledge that the address at (b) was formerly that of Sir Peter Lawler. Following Sir Peter's appointment as Ambassador to Ireland and the Holy See, his furniture and personal effects were removed in July 1983, at Commonwealth expense, to overseas and to store in Canberra.
