Mr McVeigh asked the Minister representing the Minister for Education, upon notice, on 19 September 1986:

(1) Did funding of the Warwick Education Centre cease as a result of a decision taken in the 1986-87 Budget; if so, is the decision expected to save $15,000.

(2) Is the Centre to be closed; if so, (a) was it a departmental or a Budget decision, (b) why disadvantage persons living in the country and (c) will the Minister reverse the decision.

Mr Dawkins —The Minister for Education has provided the following answer to the honourable member's question:

(1) and (2) Funding of the Warwick Education Centre under the Commonwealth Education Centres Program is schedule to cease from the end of December 1986. This was a Budget decision and will save some $15,000 in 1987. The Centre will continue to operate in 1987, drawing on income from other sources including a special Commonwealth grant of $13,500 for the development of professional skills of teachers in one, two or three teacher schools in the southern Darling Downs region.
