Mr SPENDER(4.32) —I think it should be said that the amendments to the Cheques Bill are very largely the product of the work of Senator Hamer, and his work should be recognised. I think it is also worth while pointing out that there may be some technical problems with the way in which the legislation is drafted. It has been suggested to me by some representatives of the banks that deferral of proclamation dates might be useful for the purpose of looking at any technical problems. I hope that the Attorney-General (Mr Lionel Bowen) will look at that matter so that, if there are technical problems, they can be sorted out as quickly as possible since this is not the sort of Bill over which one should engage in any kind of disputation as it is essentially non-controversial.

Question resolved in the affirmative.

Resolution reported; report adopted.
