Question No. 2527: Answering Costs

Mr Ruddock asked the Minister for Territories, upon notice, on 23 September 1986:

(1) On what basis was the sum of $250 calculated as being the cost of answering question No. 2527.

(2) How many staff-hours were involved in preparing the answer.

(3) At what rates were the staff-hours involved charged.

(4) Were any other costs involved, other than the time of departmental officers.

(5) To what extent has the cost been discounted to take into account the extent to which the information sought is now available for other purposes.

(6) What proportion of the $250.00 is attributable to the cost of originally calculating that charge.

Mr Scholes —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1) $250.00 was estimated as the cost of answering Question No. 2527 based on staff hours only. On-costs such as phone, electricity, stationery etc. were not included.

(2) 17.00 hours.

(3) Three rates were involved:

(a) 0.75 hours, Typist Grade 1, $8.27 per hour.

(b) 13.75 hours, Clerical Administrative Class 6, $13.89 per hour.

(c) 2.5 hours, Director Class 11, $21.22 per hour.

(4) Refer to (1) above.

(5) None. No further use for the information compiled is envisaged.

(6) $3.47, that is 0.25 hours at $13.89 per hours. This includes recording the time of each officer involved, obtaining the relevant salary rates and making the calculation.

The cost of answering Question No. 4667 is estimated at $6.95, that is 30 minutes at $13.89 per hour (Clerical Administrative Class 6).
