Mr BEALE(10.41) —Again I thank the Minister for Housing and Construction (Mr West) for making this information available. The Opposition has no objection to this motion. I make a brief comment about the growth of Canberra. The Government's high interest rate policy, in order to protect the value of the Australian dollar, is necessary because the Government will not face up to the economic facts and deal with its expenditure and with freeing up the labour market. If the Government addressed the question of its expenditure and took steps to free up the labour market, this would mean that the demand for money would come down and, hence, interest rates would come down, encouraging private investment again in Australia. A manifestation of government expenditure is the need for this project. I ask the Minister to take back to his colleagues a suggestion from the Opposition that the Government should address itself to its expenditure.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
