Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER (Mr Leo McLeay) —Madam Speaker has received a letter from the honourable member for Mayo (Mr Downer) proposing that a definite matter of public importance be submitted to the House for discussion, namely:

The Labor Government's wilful waste of taxpayers' money on politically motivated spending programs and its negligent attitude towards public sector profligacy.

I call upon those members who approve of the proposed discussion to rise in their places.

More than the number of members required by the Standing Orders having risen in their places-

Mr Young-This is your big day, Alexander. Can you make the front bench? This is it. Everybody is watching. I have sent a telegram to your mother.


Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER —Order! The Minister might wait until the debate starts before he makes his contribution. I know he needs to get wound up.
