Mr BARRY JONES (Minister for Science and Minister Assisting the Minister for Industry, Technology and Commerce)(11.28) —I move:

That the Bill be now read a second time.

As the Bounty (Ship Repair) Bill originated in the Senate and the second reading speech was made by the Minister for Industry, Technology and Commerce (Senator Button) in that House on 12 November, I do not propose to read the second reading speech but I will simply table a copy of it. I seek leave to do so.

Leave not granted.

Mr BARRY JONES —As there is no actual requirement to present the second reading speech and as the intention is to have a cognate debate at enormous length this afternoon, I suggest, Mr Deputy Speaker, that you formally put the motion that the Bill be read a second time, following which I imagine someone from the Opposition will move the adjournment.

Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER (Mr Mildren) —The question is that the Bill be now read a second time.
