Mr CONNOLLY —I wish to make a personal explanation.

Mr SPEAKER —Does the honourable member claim to have been misrepresented?

Mr CONNOLLY —I do. I refer to a report in the Canberra Times of Wednesday, 7 December, under the heading 'Senate told of tenders' insecurity', where some comments are made about a speech I made in the House yesterday on pages 3314 to 3316 of Hansard relating to the Canberra Commercial Development Authority. The article in the newspaper states:

. . . Mr Connolly . . . said last night a judicial inquiry should be held to clear the names of members of the committee . . .

That is not what was said. I was referring to members of the Board of the CCDA, not the members of the Joint Committee of Public Accounts, which is an important difference. Further in the same article, with reference to a Press release put out by the Minister for Territories and Local Government (Mr Uren), he accused me of climbing the heights of 'political opportunism' in relation to the comments I made in the House and in my subsequent Press release. I emphasised, for the benefit of the House, that I reject this allegation absolutely. I made the point earlier and I made it again last night.

Mr Uren —I raise a point of order. There is no misrepresentation here. It is a very accurate description of the honourable member's remarks.

Mr CONNOLLY —The Minister had his chance in the debate last night and he did not take the opportunity. He has gone against three Ministers of his own Government.

Mr SPEAKER —Order! The honourable member knows that he has gone beyond a personal explanation.
