Mr Leo McLeay asked the Special Minister of State, upon notice, on 24 August 1983:

(1) What commissions of inquiry or royal commissions are presently conducting inquiries on behalf of the Commonwealth.

(2) What are the names and titles of the members of these commissions and those assisting the commissions who are not members of the Commonwealth or State Public Service.

(3) How long has each inquiry been running.

(4) What (a) remuneration is being paid on a (i) daily basis or (ii) annual basis, where applicable, (b) is the total remuneration paid to date and (c) support staff is provided to each commission and what would be their equivalent Public Service classification.


Mr Beazley —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

The following information is in respect of royal commissions and those committees of inquiry which are serviced by my Department, and is correct as at 30 August 1983:

(1) Royal commissions and committees of inquiry presently conducting inquiries on behalf of the Commonwealth are:

(a) Committee of Review of the Australian Institute of Multicultural Affairs;

(b) Inquiry into Commonwealth Laboratories;

(c) Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Activities of the Nugan Hand Group;

(d) Royal Commission on Australia's Security and Intelligence Agencies;

(e) Royal Commission on the Activities of the Federated Ship Painters and Dockers Union; and

(f) Royal Commission on the Use and Effects of Chemical Agents and Australian Personnel in Vietnam.
