Mr LUSHER(5.37) —I thank the Minister for Transport (Mr Peter Morris) for the undertaking he gave about his possible preparedness to look at the concept at a later time. But the Opposition believes that it is not enough for simply the Government to be concerned about the financial matters of Australian National. In this instance in the period from 1977-78 to date an amount approaching $5000 in taxpayers' contributions has been involved to keep the Australian National Railways Commission in business. The Opposition believes that there needs to be some sort of scrutiny at a parliamentary level of a commitment of that nature by taxpayers. The belief of the Opposition is that by bringing the corporate plan, even in a sanitised form-the Minister might say in a meaningless form-before a committee of the Senate at least the objectives, the plans and the way in which the Commission thinks it should go about and says it is going about carrying out its charter under the Act can be brought up and scrutinised. For that reason, we seek to pursue the matter.
