Dr Klugman asked the Minister for Defence, upon notice, on 2 November 1983:

(1) Is he able to provide the latest estimates for the manpower strengths of the military forces of (a) China, (b) Cuba, (c) German Democratic Republic, (d) France, (e) Federal Republic of Germany, (f) Japan, (g) Democratic People's Republic of Korea, (h) Republic of Korea, (i) United Kingdom, (j) United States of America, (k) Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and (l) Vietnam.

(2) Is he also able to state which of these countries have compulsory military service.
