Mr BEAZLEY (Special Minister of State)(5.58) —I move:

(16) Clause 82, page 106, line 34, omit 'displayed in', substitute 'prominently displayed at'.

The Government wishes to amend clause 82 in order to make clear what is intended by the display in relation to the location of a polling booth. We have included the qualification 'prominently' and substituted the word 'at' for 'in'. When considering this clause in detail, we came to the view that there would be a possibility of a degree of disputation as to the location of the various how to vote cards. A candidate could believe that the stand was not being displayed prominently enough. There may be disputation if someone suggests that it should be in the actual voting box, as opposed to at the polling booth. Given that this will be truly a monstrous document when it is put up, any suggestion that someone might require it actually in the place might well lead to a nonsense situation developing. For this reason the Government has suggested the change.
