Mr RONALD EDWARDS —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That this House-

(1) notes that the First Home Owners Scheme introduced by the Government has resulted in substantial increases in housing contacts, building approvals and commencements;

(2) applauds Governments, unions and the housing industry for their support in the introduction of the Scheme;

(3) notes that the Scheme resulted in 35,000 inquiries from the public during the first 4 days following its introduction in October 1983; and

(4) urges that, where possible, financial institutions consider further reductions in housing interest rates.

The motion will be seconded by the honourable member for Tangney (Mr Gear).
