Mr MACPHEE —I wish to make a personal explanation.

Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER —Does the honourable member claim to have been misrepresented?

Mr MACPHEE —I do.

Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER —The honourable member may proceed.

Mr MACPHEE —I could not improve on the last personal explanation but I do seek to make one. In Question Time the Prime Minister (Mr Hawke) accused me of misquoting seasonally adjusted figures. I said that if I had, it would have been inadvertent. But, of course, the Prime Minister was wrong and I was right. The statement related to my Press release which I did not have with me. I said in the Press release:

Unemployment was running at 9.6 per cent when the Hawke Government took office in early March.

The Hawke Government took office on 5 March and the February figures were released after the election. The February figures, seasonally adjusted, as produced by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that the unemployment rate was 9.6 per cent. So, I was in fact correct.
