Question No. 81

Mr McVeigh asked the Minister for Primary Industry, upon notice, on 4 May 1983:

(1) Did the Government during the 1983 election campaign undertake to increase involvement in rural research.

(2) If so, will Government contributions in 1983-84 be greater than the $30m promised by the previous Government.

Mr Kerin —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1) Yes.

(2) A provision of $27.9m has been made in the 1983-84 Budget for the Rural Industry Research Funds. This compares with an actual expenditure of $21.9m in 1982-83.
