Mr NEWMAN —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That this House-

(1) deplores the fact that, despite great public interest and demand, there is no fm public broadcasting station in northern Tasmania;

(2) notes that proposals to establish fm public broadcasting stations in northern Tasmania have been lodged with the Department of Communications for approximately 5 years;

(3) notes that the previous Government announced that it would call for applications for 2 public broadcasting licences in northern Tasmania in early 1983;

(4) condemns the present Minister for Communications for his tardiness in failing to act on this matter, and

(5) calls on the Government to recognise the long held desire of the community of northern Tasmania to have fm public broadcasting and to immediately call for applications for licences.
