Mr HOWARD —Can the Prime Minister assure the House that no member or former member of his Government has received a fee or like remuneration for a speaking engagement since the formation of the Government in March of this year?

Mr HAWKE —All I can say is that to the best of my knowledge that would not be the case since we formed the Government. I say to the House that, as I have already indicated, Ministers will be making statements to me about their financial positions and interests.

Mr Howard —They are interests, not income.

Mr HAWKE —I take aboard the honourable member's question.

Mr Howard —Will you check it out?

Mr HAWKE —I will check it out, yes. A Minister should not receive income other than from his position as a Minister. I accept that and I would be surprised if that had happened. I certainly have no knowledge of it having happened.
