To the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia. The humble petition of the undersigned citizens of Australia respectfully showeth:

That over 2000 political prisoners in Istanbul prisons have been on hunger strike since 4th July, 1983. Their demands are:

withdrawal of prison uniforms and return of civilian clothes

an end to torture, oppression and all kinds of prohibitions, for example, on interviews with lawyers, families, going out to fresh air, receiving books and writing materials

abolition of the cell system which is established for torture and bloody intrigues; return to the system of wards

recognition of all rights to the political prisoners

Therefore, we humbly request the government of the Commonwealth of Australia:

to put pressure on the Turkish government to meet the demands of the political prisoners who are hunger striking in Turkey

to send an independent delegation from Australia, made up of members of the legal profession, medical profession, church, press, unions, parliament and democratic people, on a fact-finding mission and later to publish the uncensored report of this delegation

to grant political asylum for people from Turkey

to take action to stop the pressure on Turkish migrants by the official representatives of Turkey in Australia (i.e. embassies, consulates) and to investigate the activities of these representatives and make public the results of the investigation

to protest the fascist oppression by the government of minorities, primarily the Kurdish nation in Turkey

to review its diplomatic relations with Turkey and to publicise the demands in this petition

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
