To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives in Parliament assembled. The petition of the undersigned citizens of Australia showeth that:

We the undersigned workers of Monier Sleepers demand that you do all in your power to protect our jobs, which due to a lousy budget (especially the allocation of rail funds) appear to be in jeopardy.

The present contract finishes on November 4th and no other work is on the books at this time.

The closure of this plant would mean a loss to Port Augusta of half a million dollars a year in wages. Expenditure in the Iron Triangle amounts to three- quarters of a million dollars a year.

Your petitioners therefore humbly pray that the Commonwealth Government will act to prevent the closure of the Monier Sleeper Plant in Port Augusta.
