To the Honourable the Speaker and members of the House of Representatives in Parliament assembled. The humble petition of certain citizens of Australia respectfully showeth:

We the undersigned petitioners are employees of Merritt and Booth Pty Ltd and Merritt and Booth Plant Hire Pty Ltd. These firms have conducted business for about twenty-five years as earthmoving and drainage contractors. Currently there are employed forty-three citizens by the abovenamed firms. It has been brought to our attention that this Honourable Parliament intends to give effect to a system of taxation known as ''The Prescribed Payments System''. We wish to call to the attention of This Honourable House the effect which this tax will have upon the companies for which we work. As a direct result of this source tax we are informed that a cash flow problem will develop. We are further informed that this will result in retrenchments of several of the current employees of these firms.

Your petitioners therefore humbly pray that this Honourable House reconsider the introduction of the ''Prescribed Payments Scheme'' and bear in mind the plight, of we the undersigned petitioners, which awaits us if the abovementioned scheme is brought into operation:

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
