Mr Rocher asked the Minister for Territories and Local Government, upon notice, on 4 May 1983:

(1) Can the High Court building be made to accommodate nine rather than seven Justices without structural alteration.

(2) What would be the approximate cost of the necessary alterations to suit the building for an expanded court.


Mr Uren —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

I am informed by the National Capital Development Commission that-

(1) Yes.

(2) The order of cost to convert existing conference and other space on the Justices' floor to provide two additional suites is $600,000 at May 1983 rates.
