To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives in Parliament assembled:

We the Citizens of South Australia and members of the South Australian Branch of the Federated Miscellaneous Workers' Union of Australia, being deeply concerned with decisions affecting the future of psychiatric and mental retardation nursing, respectfully show:

1. The direction of psychiatric and mental retardation nursing has been undertaken without consultation with either the F.M.W.U., S.A. Branch or the Federal Council of Psychiatric and Mental Retardation Nurses Unions who represent in excess of 200,000 such nurses throughout Australia.

2. Decisions made, to date, affecting psychiatric and mental retardation will have long term, and damaging effects on our respective union members.

Your petitioners therefore pray that the Parliament of Australia, through the Federal Ministers for Health and Education consult immediately with the Federal Council of Psychiatric and Mental Retardation Nurses Unions and urgently receive a deputation from this body.
