Government blocks Hicks move
Senator Brown, 16th August 2006
The government today voted down the following motion from Greens Leader Bob Brown.
That the Senate calls on the government to insist that citizen of Australia, Mr David Hicks, be treated the same as citizens of the United States of America - no more, no less.
The motion was deafeated 36-33
"For the first time, the Howard government has voted to make Australian rights second rate to American rights," Senator Brown said.
