Senator COHEN (VICTORIA) - I ask the Leader of the Government in the Senate: Has the Government over a considerable period of time received many petitions and requests for a referendum to secure amendment of the Australian Constitution by removing from it the provisions discriminating against the Aboriginal people? In view of the growing public interest in and concern for the Aboriginal people, does the Government not consider that the time is long overdue for the conducting of such a referendum? Will the Government therefore give serious and urgent consideration to this proposal?
