Senator LAMP (TASMANIA) asked the Minister representing the Treasurer, upon notice -

1.   Are the Commonwealth Statistician's price index figures for groceries, dairy produce and meat in the cities of Hobart and Launceston a measure of value; or are they just price index figures used in the past for the measuring of fluctuations?

2.   If they are only a measure of fluctuation, will the Government have a special section set up for the purpose of recording the monetary value of the above commodities?
