Senator JAMES McLACHLAN (SOUTH AUSTRALIA) asked the Minister representing the Minister for Labour and National Service, upon notice -

1.   Will the Minister representing the Minister for Labour and National Service advise the Senate whether it is a fact as reported in the Sydney Morning Herald of the 1st September, that Mr. Ward has made efforts to secure the discharge from the Army of Private Wallace Henry Le Brocque, who is at present before a. military court martial on charges of desertion ?

2.   If so, and in view of the charges against this soldier, will the Minister make available to the Senate the reasons which have prompted Mr. Ward to take such action?
