Senator CAMERON (Victoria) (Minister for Aircraft Production) . - This morning, Senator Johnston asked the Minister representing the Minister for War Organization of Industry, upon notice -

1.   What is the present position- of the experiments in regard to virus for the destruction of rabbits, conducted by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research?

2.   When is it anticipated that the virus will be available for distribution to farmers and graziers?

The Minister for War Organization of Industry has now furnished me with the following answers: -

1.   The investigation is held up for the moment on account of density of rabbit population being unsuitable for a trial on a collected area in South Australia approved by the Quarantine Authority (Department of Health ) .

2.   Even under test conditions, results from the South Australian trial cannot be expected before early in 1943. It will then be necessary for the quarantine authority to give permission for release of virus in the light of results obtained.
