Senator A J McLACHLAN (SOUTH AUSTRALIA) (Postmaster-General) . - I assure Senator Hardy that the Government has given very close attention to this matter. An inquiry into the whole subject has been made by the Tariff Board, particularly in regard to the effect of the departure of certain countries from the gold standard. Honorable senators need have no fear that the Government has lost sight of this important consideration as the Tariff Board now recommends on each item under its consideration, rates of duty, both British and foreign, on the basis of the present exchange rate between Australia and London.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
