Senator MILLEN (TASMANIA) asked the Leader of the Government in the Senate, upon notice -

1.   Has the Government or any of the departments made any arrangements for Geophysical Research in the Commonwealth.

2.   What is the present position regarding patents governing Geophysical Research.


Senator Sir GEORGE PEARCE - The answers to the honorable senator's questions are as follow: -

1.   Yes. The work is being undertaken by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and the Development and Migration Commission acting in co-operation through an Executive Committee composed of one representative from each of these bodies, one from the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, two representatives of the States, and ft physicist.

2.   The whole position regarding patents is now under consideration.
