Senator Sir WILLIAM GLASGOW (Queensland) (Minister for Defence) [9.10]. - I do not know of any municipal authority which now administers a housing scheme, but there are municipal authorities which have power to do so under the Local Government Acts of the States.

Senator Reid - Sydney has power to do so.

Senator Elliott - Every municipality in Victoria has the power.

Senator Sir WILLIAM GLASGOW - I may inform Senator Findley that the Federal Capital Commission can be created an authority under this bill. I told the Senate, probably during the honorable senator's absence from the chamber, that the Treasurer had discussed the housing scheme with the State Governments or the State Savings Bank authorities in all the States with the exception of Western Australia.. As a matter of fact, the maximum amount of £1,800 was suggested by the Victorian Savings Bank Commissioners.
