Senator HERBERT HAYS (TASMANIA) asked the

Minister representing the PostmasterGeneral, upon notice -

1.   In view of the Minister's reply to a previous question relative to the acceptance of tenders for the supply of 120,000 arms for telegraph poles at an advanced price of7½d. each over that of a Tasmanian tender for stringybark, the reason for such acceptance being that jarrah was more suitable for the special work to be carried out, will the Minister state what special work was referred to?

2.   Is it the intention of thePostal Department to use jarrah exclusively, in the future, for arms for telegraph poles ?
