Senator PAYNE (Tasmania) (5:32 AM) . - There may be something in the contention that the Tariff in the proposed new sub-item would beinconsistent if it were less than the duty on textile fabrics, which has been fixed at British, 30 per cent., intermediate, 40 per cent., and general, 45 per cent. With the permission of the Committee I wish to again amend my request.

Request further amended accordingly and agreed to.

Request (by Senator Payne) agreed to -

That the House of Representatives be requested to add the following new paragraph to sub-item (d) just inserted: - " (2) Cotton, ad val., British, 20 per cent.; intermediate, 25 per cent.; general, 35 per cent."
