Senator FERRICKS (QUEENSLAND) - Is the Minister representing the Attorney-General aware that reports have been received from North Queensland stating that many Chinese storekeepers, gardeners, and farmers, some of them with pretty big interests, are showing what appears to be an undue eagerness to exchange every note of paper currency for gold ? Have any reports been received of similar activity among Chinese in other parts of Australia ? Can it be ascertained, whether there has been any abnormal despatch of gold from Australia to China during the past few months, and if so whether there has been any ulterior destination of such gold ? If the Minister is unable to give the information I desire, will he bring the allegations under the notice of the AttorneyGeneral, so that they may be inquired into?
