Senator NEEDHAM asked the Minister of Defence, upon notice -

1.   Has a number of militia officers recently been appointed temporarily to the instructional staff for duty as brigade majors at a salary of £375 per annum, with temporary rank of captain?

2.   Is there a number of permanent officers of the instructional staff who have been and are still performing precisely similar duties with temporary rank of captain, and in some cases rank of lieutenant, at a salary of £275 per annum?

3.   If so, why this discrepancy?

4.   Will the Minister take into consideration the necessity of revising and adjusting the scale of salaries at present existing as between junior officers, from £250 to £275,' performing duties as brigade majors, and other officers in brigade areas performing similar work who are receiving up to £550 per annum ?

5.   ' Would the Minister favour the granting of the rank of captain to all officers holding appointments as brigade majors?
