Senator TURLEY (Queensland) . - When this particular provision was inserted in the Defence Bill, I was not in the Chamber, or I would have opposed it, because I do not believe in it. I was astonished when the Minister informed me that such a power was contained in the Act, although I know that it does not apply to our Expeditionary Forces. Those Forces are composed of men who have volunteered for service abroad, and they should not be penalized for so doing. But if the Minister prefers that I should move in this matter when the Defence Bill is under consideration to-morrow, I am pre- pared to adopt that course. It is true that honorable senators have left this building, but that is not a matter under my control. However, I am prepared to meet the Minister, and, consequently, I ask leave to withdraw my request.

Motion, by leave, withdrawn.
