Mr Hunt asked the Minister representing the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, upon notice:

(   1 ) Will the Government now proceed to service the 6 1 applications from Aborigines for exploration licences over areas of Northern Territory reserves.

(2)   As applications were suspended pending recommendations of the Woodward Royal Commission into Land Rights for Aborigines, when will a final decision be made in regard to Aboriginal applications for exploration licences.


Mr Bryant - The Minister for Aboriginal Affairs has provided the following reply to the honourable member's question:

(1)   and (2) Subject to the agreement of the appropriate Northern Territory Aboriginal Land Councils, some 18 exploration licences currently continuing in operation under Section 38K of the Northern Territory Mining Ordinance will be renewed for the balance of their normal total term. One of these licences, EL 130, is held by the Maningrida and Goulburn Island Progress Associations.

In accordance with Mr Justice Woodward's recommendations at paragraph 629 of the second report of the Aboriginal Land Rights Commission, no new exploration licences over Aboriginal reserves will be granted until 1977.

ILO Convention No. 100 (Question No. 1373)


Mr Lynch asked the Minister for Labor and Immigration, upon notice:

(   1 ) Has the Government ratified International Labour Organisation Convention 100 (Equal Remuneration).

(2)   If not, what Australian laws or practices prevent ratification of this Convention.

(3)   What steps is the Government taking to remove these obstacles.


Mr Clyde Cameron (HINDMARSH, SOUTH AUSTRALIA) - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(   I ) (2 ) and ( 3 ) Further to my answer to part ( 3 ) of Question No. 564 (Hansard. 19/9/74 at page 1622). the remaining State has agreed to ratification of ILO Convention No. 100 and the instrument of ratification will be lodged with the Director-General of the International Labour Office on 10/12/74, the 26th anniversary of the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
