Mr Barnard asked the Minister for Trade and Industry, upon notice:

(1)   What amount was received as devaluation compensation by each company listed in his reply to my question No. 839 (Hansard, 5th May, 1970, page . 1668).

(2)   What was the reason for the compensation payment in each case.


Mr McEwen - The answers to the honourable member's questions are as follows:

(1)   Amounts paid by way of devaluation compensation to the exporters of manufactured goods listed in the answer to question No. 839 were as follows -

 

(2)   In each case, the reason for the compensation payment was to assist the company concerned to restore its export sales to devaluationaffected markets to the level prevailing prior to the devaluation of sterling and certain other currencies in November, 1967.
