Mr McMAHON - I must confess that I have found it extremely difficult to smile since I took over this portfolio. I also admit that I have found other sources of comfort and other reasons for real enjoyment. The question asked by the honorable gentleman relating to exemption certificates seems to me to be worthy of consideration because it does seem an unnecessary administrative difficulty to have to sign individual certificates on each occasion when exemption is sought.

Mr Calwell - That is a reflection on your predecessor.

Mr McMAHON - No, it is not. My predecessor was always willing to look at every representation. I will have this matter investigated, and if I find that there are not countervailing benefits, I will see what can be done during the course of the Budget discussions.
