Mr HAYLEN -Is the Minister representing the Minister for Trade and Customs satisfied with the position in regard to newsprint in this country, and the use that has been made of the increased allocation since certain controls were lifted? The increased allocation has been used by the daily newspapers almost exclusively in the production of comics, including comic strips imported from overseas, which doubtless increase juvenile delinquency but add nothing to the cultural advancement of this country, and expensive magazines for women, which feature Parisian fashions, possibly those of the post-war period, the frocks depicted costing many guineas, thus encouraging a spiral of spending and an inflationary trend in luxury lines.
