Mr CURTIN - Rail transport in this country cannot be maintained upon the ordinary basis of meeting public convenience. The very great use of transport facilities in Australia for military purposes makes inescapable interference with and dislocation of the normal requirements of the civil population. Whilst I am aware of the conditions that the honorable member described, I see no way of obviating them.
