Mr FENTON (Maribyrnong) (PostmasterGeneral)
. - Apparently the Deputy Leader of the Opposition (Mr. Forde) did not choose to hear my interjection that the contracts referred to are those between the Government and Amalgamated "Wireless (Australasia) Limited. No party desires to violate an existing contract, but legal opinion having been received that the provisions of the bill might do so, the new clause is proposed to safeguard all existing rights. There is no ulterior motive behind this proposal.
Proposed new clause agreed to.
Title agreed to.
Bill reported with amendments.
Motion (by Mr. Fenton) agreed to -
That the bill be recommitted for the reconsideration of clause 13.
In committee(Recommittal) :
Clause 13-
A commissioner shall he deemed to have vacated his office -
(a) if his appointment is terminated by the Governor-General in pursuance of this act;
(b) if he becomes bankrupt or compounds with his creditors or makes any assignment of his salary fur their benefit or takes advantage of any provision of any act relating to bankruptcy;
(c) if he becomes of unsound mind: or
(d) if he resigns his office by writing under his hand addressed to theGovernorGeneral and the resignation is accepted by the GovernorGeneral.
