Sir JOSEPH COOK (PARRAMATTA, NEW SOUTH WALES) (Minister for the Navy) - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follow: -

1.   The total amount paid by the owners for the recapture of the Zambesi was £2,549 17s. 1d.

2.   The sum distributed among the officers and men of H.M.A.S. Encounter was £2,34,5 18s. 9d., a proportion having to be paid into Naval Prize Fund.

3.   The distribution was made in accordance with the proportions laid down under the Naval Prize Act 1864.

4.   No.

5.   The Zambesi was returned to her British owners.

6.   Yes. Prize money (as distinct from salvage) is, under the Prize Act of 1915, pooled.

7.   No.
