Mr RILEY asked the Prime Minister, upon notice -

1.   Has . the attention . of the Government been drawn to the leading article in the Sydney Evening News of Wednesday, the 5th May, entitled "The Federal Capital'"?

2.   Will the Minister please say when he thinks the Capital will be habitable?

3.   Will he say what is being done to give effect to the promise made in reply to the representations of Alderman William Brooks, M.L.C., president of the Australian Federal Capital League, that it was probable thatthe Parliament of the Commonwealth would be able to meet in its proper place at Canberra within five years?


Mr HUGHES - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as fol low: -

1.   No.

2.   It is not possible to fix a definite date.

3.   Subject only to financial considerations, the work of building the Federal Capital is being and will be proceeded with.
