Mr TUDOR (Yarra) (Minister of Trade and Customs) (12:25 PM) . - I move -

That all thewords after the word " item," line 2, be left out, with a view to insert in lieu thereof the following words: - "342. Gramaphones, phonographs, and other talking machines, including cases (but not horns) imported with machines, ad valorem (General Tariff),10 per cent. ; (United Kingdom), 5 per cent."

The cases are from one-third to one-fifth the value of the whole machine; and the idea has been, while assessing the value of the whole gramaphone, to assess the case at about the same rate as furniture.
